The Beinecke Scholarship is awarded to twenty juniors nationwide who demonstrate both some form of financial need (no matter how small) and a clear interest in continuing their studies at the graduate level. Reserved for students in the arts, humanities, and social sciences, Beinecke scholarships provide each recipient with over $30,000 to cover the costs of tuition and fees accrued during one’s graduate career.

SIT Study Abroad awarded $750,000 in scholarships in 2010. About one-third of scholarship applicants receive financial assistance to participate in our programs. Only SIT Study Abroad participants can be considered for SIT Study Abroad scholarships. Awards generally range from $500 to $5,000 for semester programs, and $300 to $3,000 for summer programs. Financial need is a primary consideration for all of our scholarship decisions.

The American-Scandinavian Foundation (ASF) offers fellowships (up to $23,000) and grants (normally $5,000) to individuals to pursue research or study in one or more Scandinavian country for up to one year. The number of awards varies each year according to total funds available. Over $300,000 is available for the 2011-12 competition. Awards are made in all fields.

In order to be eligible for this program, applicants must meet all of the following criteria: Spoken communication must be the applicant’s primary mode of communication. Hearing loss must have been diagnosed before the applicant’s fourth birthday. Hearing loss must be bilateral and in the moderate to profound range. Applicants must have an unaided Pure-Tone Average (PTA) of 60dB or greater in the better-hearing ear in the speech frequencies of 500, 1000 and 2000 Hz. Applicants with cochlear implants meet this eligibility requirement. Unilateral (one-sided) hearing loss does not qualify.

The Albright annually provides up to $325,000 in fellowships and awards to 32 recipients. In addition, 32 Associate Fellows including Senior, Post-Doctoral, and Research Fellows receive funding from other sources.

Washington and Lee is one of thirteen U. S. colleges and universities affiliated with Advanced Studies in England (ASE), an undergraduate humanities program based in the city of Bath which offers qualified students a one- or two-semester experience (summer school also available). Students live in Georgian townhouses near the city center. The seminar-sized classes taught by British faculty often include study trips designed to deepen the students’ understanding of the particular curricular subjects and English culture. ASE is formally associated with University College, Oxford University where students study for a 9-day residency each semester. Dr. Christopher Pelling, Regius Professor of Greek at Oxford University, appoints the Oxford faculty and oversees the time in Oxford. Students also spend a week each semester in Stratford-upon-Avon while attending the Royal Shakespeare Company productions. Applicants to ASE should have a 3.000 cumulative grade-point average. The Academic Competitiveness Grant was made available for the first time for the 2006-2007 school year for first-year college students who graduated from high school after January 1, 2006, and for second-year college students who graduated from high school after January 1, 2005.

The American Center of Oriental Research (ACOR) in Amman, Jordan is a private, international, non profit 501(c)(3), academic institution dedicated to promoting research and publication in the fields of archaeology, anthropology, ancient through Islamic history, art history, cultural resources management, conservation and preservation studies, Near Eastern languages, religion, and other aspects of Middle East and Near Eastern area studies.

International Fellowships are awarded for full-time study or research in the United States to women who are not United States citizens or permanent residents. Both graduate and postgraduate study at accredited institutions are supported. Several fellowships are available for study outside of the U.S.
